The Real Killer
The Civil War was the bloodiest, most deadly war Americans have fought in. Over 625,000 men died along the whole timeline. But All of the soldiers did not die of being shot, on the contrary, most died of disease or infection. The conditions of the camps, ventilated tents, walking close to one another when one could have the disease. All of this caused the spread of mumps, chicken poxs, and measles. About one million of the union soldiers had malaria. Even thought there was a lot of fighting and shooting and killing going on, the thing that killed most of the soldiers was disease. And when soldiers needed to get a limb amputated infections were deadly because doctors did not have the proper cleaning supplies. Some bullets would be dug out with unclean fingers.
The Bloodiest General
Even though many people think it's Ulysses S. Grant because of his terrible lost in the Overland Campaign in the spring of 1864. If they count it proportionally Lee's army had more causalities throughout the years. Lee liked to relish the attacks, which did win him important battles like Chancellorsville and Fredricksburg but this would cost him a lot of lives. So over all this makes Lee the most bloody general of the Civil War.
Soldier refusing their salary

They were paid ten dollars a month, where white soldiers were being paid 13 or more depending on their rank. The highest paid Black soldier was paid the what the lowest white soldier was getting paid. With a mix of help from abolitionist congressmen and the refusal of the wages on September of 1864, black soldiers finally received equal pay. With this change, most of the Black soldiers had money to send back to their families.
